MISSISSIPPI STUDENTS AWARDED SCHOLARSHIP IN ESSAY CONTEST
Little Rock, Ark.Two Mississippi college students are two of nine winners in the nationwide “Words of Wisdom: Lessons in Courage” essay contest sponsored by Alltel Wireless, America’s largest network, to reward the academic achievements of students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) across the country. (more) NATCHEZ TRACE COMPACT HONORED AS SOUTHEAST TOURISM SOCIETY’S Tupelo, Miss. The Natchez Trace Compact was recently awarded the Shining Example for Regional Organization of the Year by the Southeast Tourism Society (STS). The presentation was made Sept. 6, 2006 in Arlington, Virginia, and the group was honored for their accomplishments Sept. 26, 2006 at a reception in Tupelo, Mississippi, which is the headquarters of the Natchez Trace Parkway. (more) ONE-MILLIONTH VISITOR WELCOMED TO Jackson, Miss. On October 28, 2006, the staff of the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science welcomed the Pirruccio family as the one-millionth visitor to the Museum’s new location (which opened in the spring of 2000). The Pirruccio’s relocated to Lafayette, Louisiana from Italy this summer and have visited museums world-wide. But, son Riccardo exclaims that, “Now, the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science is our museum!” (more) JINGLE-BELL JACKSON EVENTS Jackson, Miss.
