When I was young, South Jackson was a good place to live and work. South Jackson is still a good place to live and work. All communities have their share of crime. But, South Jackson is not to be defined by the occasional miscreant.
South Jackson should be recognized for its hard-working people, its children who study and play, and business owners who provide the community with quality products and services. South Jackson has fathers and mothers who keep nice homes for their families--thousands of families who are glad to be living in the southern districts of the city. South Jackson has innumerable old people who are not afraid to sit in their livingrooms, look out their windows across peaceful lawns, and enjoy the repectable activities that surround them in South Jackson.
The news tends to highlight that which is sensational and frightening. This is understandable; the news is only on for a few minutes a day. The papers and journals have only so much space. There is little time for television news and local publications to cover all of the good things about South Jackson. There are too many good things. Where would they start?
The daily news cannot be expected to define South Jackson.
